A Welcoming Woodland Garden
The worn footpath was the most obvious problem, but removing it would not, by itself, improve the experience of approaching the house. The continuous ribbon of pachysandra created a strong visual line toward the distant entrance, drawing attention away from the woodland and natural stone. The opportunity was to introduce a more varied rhythm of planting and stonework, encouraging the eye to move through the garden rather than simply along it.

Seeing the Possibilities
Sometimes a few small changes can make a surprisingly large difference.
On my first visit, I was struck by how strongly the white garage doors and dark driveway dominated the approach to the house. The surrounding woodland and beautiful existing stonework seemed almost incidental.
I made a quick digital study showing how a change in color, the pair of planters, and a continuing the existing stone edging could bring the entrance into better balance.
I sent the comparison to the clients shortly afterward. It was a simple idea, but it immediately helped them see the possibilities.
