Earthly Delights Resource-Based Design

A planting approach that works with how plants actually use soil, sun, and water over time, creating landscapes that are resilient, environmentally sound, and require less intervention.

Letting Plant Specialization Work

Plants are specialists. Each one evolved to use soil, sun, and water in a particular way—and on its own schedule.

Our Resource-Based Design takes advantage of that. Instead of asking every plant to perform at once, it combines plants with different growth rhythms and root strategies so resources are drawn at different times and from different places. Early bloomers peak in spring and step back. Summer plants carry the garden through heat. Fall bloomers arrive when others fade.

Below ground, roots matter just as much. Some plants draw shallow moisture quickly, others reach deeper or store water efficiently. When paired thoughtfully, they support one another rather than compete.

The result is a garden that feels natural and abundant, yet quietly efficient—more resilient, more environmentally supportive, and visually rich from season to season.
